Jeep
The history of Jeep goes back to the times after World War II when the demand for a cross-country car appeared. The American engineer Arthur Harrington was the designer of this model which was called "Jeep" (in short GP — jeep, which means "general purpose"), but the popularity to this car was brought by the American company Willis that presented its development for the American army in November 1940.
The first cars were manufactured in 1942. All together more than 360 000 cross-country vehicles were produced. In the early 60s the production of Jeep was passed to the American Motors Corp. (AMC) and in 1983 appeared the first five-door off-road vehicle Jeep Cherokee, the luxury version of which was called Jeep Waggoner characterized by four small headlights built in under each other. In 1986 at the trade fair in Geneva was presented a new cross-country car Jeep Wrangler, in 1990 it was updated and the new modification was called Jeep Renegade.
The sixth generation of a water-proof off-road vehicle Jeep Wrangler saw the world in 1997. Instead of springs, the car was equipped with the spring suspension Quadra-Coil. The general appearance became softer without aggression and more comfortable inside. The new generation of the model Jeep Grand Cherokee entered the market in 1998. Jeep Commander 2 became a sensation in 2000. The body of the car was made of high-tensile plastics and had a reliable security system with a mounted video camera in the dashboard, which at stealing immediately sends the face of the criminal to the police.
In 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was renewed. The new five-door five-seat car became more comfortable and was equipped with the system Quadra-Drive, which doesn't let the car get stuck when one wheel went into a skid as the traction passes to the other wheels.
The Jeep cars are one of the best in the world of the all wheel drive of-road vehicles.
