HUMMER

The American company HUMMER is a part of the General Motors corporation which specializes in producing powerful cross-country vehicles of high capacity. Hummer is produced at the plant UAW of the company AM General in Mishawaka, Indiana.

The history of Hummer started due to the demand of the American army for a special vehicle. As a result, in summer 1979 the company AM General started the development of high capacity cars. The program got the name HMMWV M998 (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle Model 998). The cross-country vehicle is characterized by easy driving, phenomenal passing ability and could carry various kinds of weapons. It became the main vehicle of the US Army.

In 11 months General Motors Corporation presented its first model of the military vehicle under the trademark M998, which is well-known under the name H1. The company also developed and launched the civil variant of this cross-country vehicle. Since 1992 everybody could buy it. The high price made it an up-market car. Depending on the configuration, its cost on the US market is from 70 000 to 85 000 US dollars and the annual sales volume is 2 000 vehicles, which can be compared with the sales of Ferrari.

The civil modification of Hummer, having been produced since 1992, is modified every year, which helps the company keep the demand for them on a stable level. One of the first owners of Hummer became Arnold Schwarzenegger followed by Silvester Stalonne, Steven Spielberg, George Lukas and Andre Agassi. Hummer enjoys great popularity in the Middle East countries and United Arab Emirates.
